Apart from a recent Monday night jaunt up Ben Arthur to look at Punsters, I hadn't been on a hill walking trip in Scotland since before the trip to Switzerland. A look below at my blog sees Fisherfield as being my last outing - way back in July...... Not too sure what has resulted in this inactivity but I have had stomach bugs and colds (and some fantastic weddings:)) which may be responsible. Anyhoos, I needed to get out and get a hill fix. A short day was planned and a Corbett in Glen Cannich chosen - Sgorr na Dolliad. A look at the map showed it to be a relatively short outing.
I arrived around 10.30 and was on the go from near Muchrachd by 10.50, heading up the little shoulder and through the ferns an heather. Not much of a path. I headed for the rocky knoll at 496m where I took a rest - and some shelter from the gales that were blowing in from the NW....
View up Glen Cannich toward Loch Mullrdoch.....
The going from here was over pretty rough, tussocky, peaty, heathery uneven ground - lost my leg down a few well hidden holes too!!! I had headed for the lower peak at 777m and from here I was blown toward the summit. A heavy shower rolled in and I got suitably soaked!! However the re emergence of the sun and the gale force winds soon dried me up :)
Approaching the Summit.....
The wind was blowing me about which made for an interesting final ascent to the top. However it was an easy scramble, but staying upright on the top was a struggle !
I didn't linger too long and soon headed back towards the car cutting across the slopes (once again no paths and rough underfoot). Got back around 13.00 ish. A nice wee hill and glad to be back out again..
Some thoughts and reports from my outdoors activties...
