Some thoughts and reports from outings...
Blogs from some outdoor adventures.....
Well, after humming and hoing about heading out today, I eventually bit the bullet and set off. Still recovering from the bout of D and V earlier in the week I chose a hill which was perfect for todays mediciinal needs - something not too strenuous nad not too far away. he only down side was that the start of the walk was at 500m on a small winding road which sees little gritter action (if the signs are to be believed). Anyway - if the road was unpassable I did hae a plan B.
An extremely late start (left house at 10.30!!) saw me heaing north and I reached the turn off for the Ben Lawers nature reserve at about 11.30. Heading up through the trees and things were ok, the raod was black and the temperature was 3 degrees. I headed on and past the car parks for lawers and tarmachan. My parking bay was to be at the green iron hut just before the road turns north and heads down to Glen Lyon. However about 1 km before this point the road got markedly worse and there was a lot of lying snow and ice!! was heading down hill now so managed it ok (it was the return I was not too confident about!!).Anyway set off and strolled slowly (well scramled and slipped) to te summit. Not much in way of views but enjoyable none the less. Only took a couple of hours, then it was back to the car for the fun slippy drive back home. Well the car managed fine and I got home nice and early- starting to feel better now thankfully...........

Well its Friday evening and my origional plans for this (long - until wednesday) and child free) weekend were exciting. Saturday - walk and hike anywhere in Scotand - Corbett Munro whatever; Sunday - first winter mountineering route to be done, Mon and Tues - off up North somewhere for some great hiking:)
Unfortunately the reality is somewhat more sobering:( After a week suffering and now recovering from Norovirus, I am now contemplating whether I can even manage an easy route tomorrow! Sundays mountaineering has now evaporated due to other commitments not just the weather (plus dont want to do first route of winter being the one slowing everyone down!!). Perhps I can pick up something on Mon and Tues but dont think a trip to a far flung mountin will happen..... Will see what happens tomorrow!! (prbably just post some more videos up!!) Been struck down by the dreaded lurgy so have spent the last few (glorious) days in my pit!! It did give me the chance to catch up on some TV and I must admit I enjoyed The ADVENTURE SHOW this month (9th Dec) - the kids even watched part of it waiting to see who won the Torridon Iron man competition!! Also enjoyed the walk report as it brought back memories of my we jaunt up the Whisky Hill ealrier in the year. A great wee outing, I'd recommend Ben Rinnes for a quick afternoon or evening stroll, with some optional scrambling on the granite tors at the top. Although literally - just across the road - from my "most dull hill in Scotland" outing - I must admit I enjoyed Rinnes a lot more!! Have attached the video of the walk ............... hope to recover for weeke
Another lazy day - lurgy caught from wee ones kicking in!! Once again highlight of day so far was the sun coming up - whilst taking pics I noticed the circumhorizon effect on one of the clouds. The rainbow cloud looked amazing and the picture does it no justice! Think I may updat webpage more now and add some more pics...
This is about as close as I have got to leaving my sofa today - picture from window this morning !! Lazy is not the word to describe my activity today - couch potato - tv addict etc etc etc
not getting out this weekend so will catch up on reports and update website - plan for next weekend fun!!
Having been out on the hill "playing" last weekend - see Grey man report!!- I was to have a nice relaxing weekend with the family. That ws until I saw the forecast for Sunday!!! So earned some brownie points and promised to be back early and away I went at 05.45 this morning, arriving at Linn of Dee at 07.15am. On with headtorch and away I went to hike up Sgor Mor. I had twice tried to get up here last year but the A93 was closed due to snow so I was pleased to get up here today - it was icy but I took my time. The slog up to Carn an Duidhe was hard going mainly due to the knee deep heather!! A few curses were grumbled!! I was trying to get as high as I could for the sunrise and managed half way to Sgor Dubh before the sun rose. Fantastic . The hills to the south - Beinn a Ghlo were pink as were the Cairngorms. I was keen to get round ASAP so to get home early - so apart from a few stops to take videos and pics I mainly cracked on. Reached the summit at 09.30 and then headed home. It was icy cold on top!! Got to car at 11.20 an home for lunch!! A great wee miro hike......
